Biography
The Not Quite Big Band, more fondly known as NQBB, is a 15-piece Manchester-based professional big band comprised of some of the UK’s most exciting & talented musicians. NQBB’s diversity and professionalism is seldom found across entertainment packages, offering something completely unique with an ability to transform an event into a true spectacle.
Having played in festivals, on cruise ships, for TV & film and alongside some of the industry’s biggest names, such as Paul Heaton, the collective experience across the entire band has made NQBB one of the most sought after big bands in the UK. Ran by internationally-toured musician and musical director, Will Dakin, within just two years, NQBB has been propelled into cult-stardom in Manchester’s high-end hospitality and events scenes.
Thanks to its refreshing approach, NQBB is trailblazing in the live events industry, taking the audience on an expertly curated experience through the decades of cabaret clubs and dance halls whilst bringing back to life some of the best music from the mid-late 20th century. By championing some of the UK’s finest young musicians, audiences are afforded the opportunity to celebrate long-forgotten musical eras in full ‘swing’!
As audiences are invited into the festivities by the cool croon of Dean Martin and the unmistakable tune of Frank Sinatra, NQBB has revitalised a movement of music that continues to prove its timelessness today. And as the night unfolds with the support of Bublé, the Blues Brothers, Elvis and more, those fortunate enough to enjoy the entertainment become fully immersed in an unforgettable evening of dancing and singing. To see a 15-piece big band live is truly a spectacle like no other. As the demand for NQBB’s unmatched evening of entertainment grows, audiences are reminded that there is nothing quite like the glimmer of a beautiful array of woodwind and brass playing together in perfect harmony with a rhythm section.

NQBB proudly resides at Manchester’s fabled Hotel Gotham in their brand-new speakeasy, the GILT club. The band regularly performs sell out shows and has provided top tier entertainment for many private events at venues such as the Principle Hotel, Hatch and Crowne Plaza in Manchester.
